Let’s talk a bit about the other critical Omega’s outside of the standard Omega 3.

Omega 5 is found in Pomegranates. It is one of the most potent antioxidants known to modern science, at least six times more potent than grape seed extract.  It is a high-energy molecule that interferes with the production of inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes that cause disease. It mimicks the behavior of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin,  but without the side effects. Omega 5 helps repair damaged cells and also controls and regulates glucose transport at the cell membrane level, making it very useful for individuals with insulin sensitivity. Omega 7 can be fond in Sea Buckthorn Berries. It can reduce the risk of type II diabetes, prevent the buildup of atherosclerotic plaque, increase beneficial HDL and lower and inflammation marker called C-reactive protein, which relates to an increase in risk for a heart attack and stroke. Omega 7 suppresses the production of new fat molecules, especially those fats that damage tissue and raise cardiovascular risk. Additionally, it fights against Metabolic Syndrome which encompasses:

  • Elevated glucose and insulin resistance
  • Lipid disturbances (high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol)
  • High blood pressure
  • Central obesity
  • Chronic inflammation

 

Omega 9 can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Studies have shown to increase HDL cholesterol and decrease LDL cholesterol; reduces inflammation, boosts immune system and can also increase energy.
